First Visit To Fuerteventura

Entrance to Atlantic Garden and Market in the Campanario Centre

My wife Paula and I were in need of a break in November 2010, before Paula became engrossed in the Christmas shopping frenzy, not buying, but selling, as Paula works in the retail trade .

Friends had recommended Fuerteventura as just the place to go to have a relaxing time, so after searching the web and reading all we could about Fuerteventura , we booked a week in mid November 2010, our chosen destination on Fuerteventura being Corralejo, (which is in the north east of the island) and staying at the Atlantic Garden, again selected after reading all the favorable comments on the web about the resort .

Prior to our departure from Ireland (Cork),we had booked a taxi
to take us from Fuerteventura Airport, to our destination, the Atlantic Garden Apartments on the Avenida Fuerteventura.

We were welcomed at Fuerteventura Airport by a smartly dressed young lady, who the took my wife and I to meet our taxi driver, again in company uniform and as we left to go to our taxi she gave us a card with details how to contact them and confirm our collection date and time for our return. After being shown to our taxi, an immaculate Black Mercedes, we settled in whilst the driver placed our cases into the boot, and then we were off on a very pleasant drive along the coast road to Corralejo, which took just about 30 minutes.

On our arrival at the resort reception, it was reassuring that our requests, that we wanted, a first floor apartment with balcony were all arranged.

The apartment was very clean, light and the balcony (with Table and 4 chairs) had the sun all day (just the job to top up the suntan). The bedroom was very comfortable, the Bathroom, kitchen and lounge, again very clean with all that was required for our stay.
Our apartment was a 20 minute stroll away from the main town area and harbour. There is very good shopping both locally at the Campanario Centre (5 minutes from apartment) for our daily needs (food, drinks newspapers etc) and on the way into town.
For dining out, the Steak House restaurant serves an excellent meal, and well worth a visit.
There are quite a few places for an English breakfast, we ate at a sea front restaurant overlooking the beach, very good and very reasonable prices, we paid €3.50 (£2.94) each for our English breakfast which was excellent.
Most of our holiday (7 days) was spent swimming, sun bathing and walking, exploring the area and it's fabulous beaches, watching the kite surfers and a visit to the local Baku Water Park, which has a market on Mondays and Fridays.
There is also a market on Sunday mornings and early Thursday evenings in the Campanario Centre, 4 minutes walk away from the Atlantic Gardens.
Having had a wonderful week on this beautiful island, it was time to phone the local number given to us by the Taxis representative, to confirm our departure time on Sunday morning.
The taxi arrived on the dot and took us back to the airport.
That was last November, and it seems a long time ago, so we are off to Fuerteventura again, same venue for another week, this time our daughter her husband and our grandson will be coming with us.
We are already looking at coming back for a two week holiday in November, as we want to see the rest of the Island. We will probably hire a couple bikes for a few days (possibly a tandem) as there are fabulous cycle tracks here, set inland from the main road making them very safe and they have a really good finish.
Watch this space for our update on our 2nd visit to Corralejo in March.
